It’s 2007 and we are mixing the breeds.
Far from either pop-punk or “tough-guy” hardcore, Sounds of revenge’s “the spark” is ready to break with today’s trends. Reaching in late80’s and early 90’s influences it is at a crosspoint between punk, hiphop and hardcore to straight up dirty blues and rock and roll. You can feel these guys listen to the Bad Brains, Sepultura, Rage against the machine or Blood for blood.
The energy is there, the style is frantic and restless. Frontman YanickTrudel’s vocals scream with urgency on groovesof straight forward political lyrics such as : “I’ll set fire to your shop”, “This is the sounds of revenge, you should have killed me when you had the chance.” Or “Malcom, Hampton, Huey, King.”
“We live at critical times, says Yanick, There’s the Iraq war, of course,but there is also a new rise ofthe right wing in Europe, and here too in America.Climate change will fuck over an entire generation and economic inequalities still prevail.It’s no time to be singing about how that cute girl didn’t fuck you..."
Self-produced and recorded by MarkPerno at Hell’s kitchen studio, the recording too breaks with today’s norm. “I think today’s recordings sound too clean, too artificial. We wanted “grainy” guitars, “greasy” bass and an overall “dirty” feel. It’samazing how Mark got it right...” Says Chris Herrera(guitars).
The spark is set to be released on the band’s own DIY “the factory line” initiative. It will be available to Montreal locals at Soundcentraland at the band’s shows.
